Boyds Pit
This area is on private land owned by TimberWest, and is "officially" closed to all recreation. The Victoria Motorcycle Club was told that they were non-gratis July 2006, after many years of maintaining these trails for XC.
One of VIORC's mandates is to get recreational access to this great area reopened. (see TimberWestLandAccess)
Many people still ride here on the over 300 km of trails and single track. The area is laced with technical single track, with many downed trees to cross. Because of the land access issues, there has been limited trail maintenance. This area was one of the premier riding areas when it was open.
Access
Access to Boyds Pit is off the Port Renfrew Rd., east of Shirley. As one heads west from Gordon Beach towards Shirley, there is a straight stretch in the road. Watch for a clear cut on the right , then a tank trap further up the road. Just after the tank trap is a single track into the bush. Park on the edge of the road. Most people park on the south side. Don't ride on the road, RCMP have often busted riders for unlicensed vehicles. Secure all your ramps, cans, gear before you leave. Stuff goes missing at times.
Riding
TimberWest is presently logging near to where one would enter the area from the Port Renfrew Rd., and all along the first few miles of the Muir Main trunk road.
For an example of the riding to be had, here is a GPS track from one rider.

If you choose to ride here, remember it is officially closed, watch for active logging and log hauling, and head towards the northern trails away from the active logging. Watch for the closed red gate near the highway. If it is open, there is active logging and log haul going on.
Keep your head up and speed down
